Honourable
Chukwudi Ozoeluba Augustine, a young Council Member in Anambra Local
Government, on his way to a friend’s function, was kidnapped at gunpoint
by four unidentified gunmen.
As
soon as they got hold of him, they pushed him into his car, tied his
hands to his back, blindfolded him and tied his legs. They shot into the
air to keep onlookers at bay as they drove him to an unknown
destination in a swampy forest.
Before
arriving at their final destination, they tried to contact certain
accomplices by phone and he could hear them negotiating to come and
deposit a victim but those contacts told them that they were not
available at that moment.
When
they reached their destination with him, one of the gunmen said that
they should kill him and asked him to say his last words. He prayerfully
said, ‘Emmanuel, You will save me!’ in his heart as they pushed him to
his knees half naked. When they pointed the gun at him and pulled the
trigger, the gun did not go off and they left him in confusion,
blindfolded with his hands and legs tied. When he realised that he was
alone, he started to struggle to get loose and repeated, “Emmanuel!” and
the ropes miraculously loosened. He managed to escape to a nearby hotel
where he was able to alert the police and call for help.
His advice was for people to strongly believe in God and to call upon the name, Jesus from a sincere heart.
